Hi, Friends. Music is such a big part of what we do at Old Mill Road Media and Old Mill Road Recording. Every publication of ours has a dedicated music section and one of our publications, Music in the Berkshires, is entirely dedicated to music.

In fact, it is music that brought me to Old Mill Road. Over 3 years ago, I auditioned to sing on an album being produced and recorded at Old Mill Road Recording. I was so impressed by the beauty of the high-end facility and the warmth and professionalism of the staff that I asked if they were hiring for any permanent positions. They weren’t, but after submitting my resume and meeting several times with the team, they found a place for me. I’m still here and I LOVE my job.

Several of my fellow coworkers are also musicians, and even those of us who aren’t, have a deep appreciation for music and how it can inspire, release emotion, and bring people together. That’s why we are so thrilled to be sponsoring a concert for Southern Vermont Arts Center’s Sounds Good Concert series this Friday, August 15, along with New England Foundation for the Arts. We invite you all to hear the spirited sounds of New England based folk quartet, Rani Arbo & daisy mayhem, with special guest openers, Serenity Singers, our local Hospice choir (check out the Music section to read more!)

What makes this even more special for me is my connection to the band. I’ve seen Rani Arbo & daisy mayhem perform, and they are outstanding, but that’s only part of my joy in welcoming them to the Shires.

The guitar player, Anand Nayak, is a good friend from way, way “back in the day.” Anand and my husband, Matthew, attended Wesleyan University together as undergrads, where they sang in an a capella group and played music together. All three of us were roommates in a basement apartment in Middletown, CT my husband’s senior year. We were cat co-parents to the infamous tabby cat, Talmot, and we had some great times, making meals together and cramming as many friends as we could into our tiny place for parties. There was always good music. Anand attended and performed at our wedding in 2005, and last year, he joined us at Matthew’s 50th birthday party to play with him again after many, many years.

Like Anand, all the members of the band are fantastic musicians, and after 20 years performing together, they have refined their sound to create something truly memorable for all their audiences.

I can’t wait to see them all perform again this Friday night at Southern Vermont Arts Center (SVAC). I hope to see some of you, too!
