Hey, Friends! Did you get a chance to stop by the First Annual Manchester Harvest Day at Factory Point Town Green this past Saturday? The weather was beautiful, there was music in the air, and people from all over were out and about enjoying the festivities.
I brought my son to Harvest Day and strongly encouraged him to pose at one of the“face-in-the-hole” photo stands on site. Part of his encouragement included the free popcorn offered by the Kimpton Taconic Hotel and a rice cereal treat from Bubbles Bakes! Some of the younger kids were enjoying pumpkin painting and face painting- they looked like they were having a blast!
We took a nice stroll through the Green, over the gorgeous Riverwalk (our first time, can you believe it?), and then walked through downtown to get some lunch. We brought our takeout with us back over the bridge and sat in the Green to listen to live music by Arthur James and soak in the surroundings

I also took a leap of faith and entered a jack o’ lantern into the Pumpkin Carving Contest! I love carving pumpkins, but I’m not a visual artist by any stretch, so I use stencils I find online, a carving kit from the drug sto
re, and then hope for the best!
As harvest season continues in Southern Vermont, there are so many more fun things to do in the area- just scroll below to see it all: Southern Vermont Arts Center’s Halloween on the Hill, the Vermont Arts Exchange’s Halloween Parade, Taconic Music’s Jazz in the Barn, and more!
Evolution of a Jack O’ Lantern
(note: it’s supposed to be Medusa…remember, I’m not a visual artist!)
I like to carve out the bottom instead of the top so that you don’t see the cut.

I used a free stencil for Medusa that I found online, but I had to free-hand the lines with a crayon so that the overall design would be the size I wanted.

Not my best work, but I know it will look better with the electric tea light on at night! To see the final design (no, this isn’t it!), you’ll have to visit manchestervermont.com and see all the Pumpkin Carving Contest submissions!
