Hi, Friends! This weekend, many of us will be celebrating Father’s Day with the men in our lives who have been our caretakers, our mentors, our guides, our protectors, and our supporters. Some of us will gather in person, others will send their love from afar, and many of us will remember fathers and grandfathers we’ve lost. It’s all about Dads this weekend, and I want to send my love to the impactful father figures in my own life: my super cool father-in-law, Charles, my wonderful stepfather, Sam, and of course, the father of my child and the love of my life, Matthew.

Matt and I welcomed baby Elliott into the world on December 19, 2012 at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City. I’ll never forget how calm and loving Matt was from the moment I went into labor until the moment Elliott was born. Having a child was a very deliberate decision, and one I made, in part, because I knew Matt would be an excellent father. My biological father has been absent from my life since I was 4 years old and it was important for me to break that cycle.
Boy, did I make the right choice! Every day, I’m grateful that Elliott has the father I never had growing up. Matt has brought humor, music, curiosity about the world, and most importantly, love, into our son’s life and it’s been a joy to share the absolute craziness of parenthood with him.
On Saturday, June 14, Matt will be performing with the Vermont Arts Exchange band in the Bennington Pride parade, showing his son that welcoming and LOVE are always the way to go.
On Sunday, June 15, Elliott will give Matt the greatest Father’s Day gift by performing in his end of the year piano recital. It’s because of him that Elliott has been playing the piano since the age of 4. Music is a significant part of my family’s life, and Matt has always been the driving force behind that.
Thank you, my love.
