Film Screening: Tokyo Story
March 8, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
The Weston Film Club will present Tokyo Story, its 4th film of the 2019 season, on Friday, March 8, 2019, at the Weston Playhouse at Walker Farm. The film begins at 7:00 PM. For those interested, there is 6:00 Social (BYOB and hors d’oeuvre to share) in addition to a discussion following the film.
Tokyo Story lists as the third greatest film of all time in the poll of world film critics and scholars, just behind Hitchcock’s Vertigo and Orson Welles’ Citizen Kane. Profoundly stirring, the film captures the universal heartbreak of generational conflict and the complex world of family life. It follows an aging couple’s journey to visit their grown children in bustling postwar Tokyo. The couple is shunted off to a spa by their offspring who are too busy and preoccupied to spend time with their parents.
Tokyo Story is the crowning achievement of Yasujiro Ozu. The film deepens the director’s recurring theme of generational conflict, creating what is without question one of cinema’s mightiest masterpieces.
The Weston Playhouse at Walker Farm is located at 705 Main St, Weston, VT. You can purchase tickets for $10 at the door. For reservations or additional information, please email [email protected].
